Travellers move to Winnersh park and ride

By Jon Nurse
March 21, 2013

Travellers have moved to the Loddon Bridge Park and Ride.

Ten caravans arrived at the site last night, which is shut due to an Environment Agency flood alert for the River Loddon.

The travellers are believed to have moved from the Hills Meadow car park in Reading.

A Wokingham Borough Council spokesman said: "The land owners have been made aware along with Thames Valley Police and we will be working closely with them both."

If 'The travellers are believed to have moved from the Hills Meadow car park in Reading' then why is Bracknell News reporting 'The travellers were driving along the M4 on their way back to Dublin after a whistle stop tour of the UK'. Also, why go to Basingstoke hospital rather (19 miles) rather than Reading (5 miles).

Great. I take great care to tailor my comment about illegal campsites rather than name any enthnic group and I'm silenced, yet the story is sold on these people's ethnicity.

What's going to happen to the rubbish bagged in black sacks (don't get me going) accumulating on the site which happens next to be next to a river?

Reminds me of wasps. They have no redeeming qualities either. Well, if comments are being deleted to protect the guilty, may as well say what I think!

Paper quite happy to name a driving instructor who has been found innocent of certain accusations but not prepared to carry comments about people illegally on someone else's land.

Wonder where the person editing these comments is camped out tonight!!

Ooh it's remove all the comments day today. Why's that then? Who are we protecting here?

Travellers are not a race (so we can't be being racist) and the comments relate to real things that have happened and are the reasons why people have real concerns when they are nearby. Yet we can't say anything about it because its all so controversial. It's really frustrating when some people seem to get protection that others don't, like when someone punches a burglar and gets done for assault.

Awaits comment to be deleted... Sigh.

@BCA - Hills Meadow is gated. Made no difference there.

Why isn't the car park gated, and will the 'new' park and ride be designed to restrict high vehicles from accessing it?
