South West Trains plans revised schedule tomorrow in the event of snow

January 17, 2013

South West Trains has announced it has a revised service planned for tomorrow in the event of heavy snow.

The revised timetable will affect people travelling between Reading and London Waterloo, and Woking and Guilford via Wimbledon, as well as a number of other major local services.

The service between Ascot to Ash Vale and Virginia Water to Weybridge will not be running, as well as trains between Salisbury and Bristol.

Heavy Snow could be coming to Wokingham and Bracknell

Up-to-date information will be available on the company's website www.southwesttrains.co.uk.

Jake Kelly, Customer Service Director for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance, said: “Over the past few days, we have been carefully monitoring the weather forecast to enable us to make a decision about the level of service we should plan to run.  With severe weather warnings in place for heavy snow on our network, we have taken the decision to put a special timetable in place for Friday 18 January.

“We know that what our passengers want most is certainty about when and how they are going to get to their destination.  This special timetable helps ensure this by running slightly fewer services and allowing more time for trains to cope with poor conditions. In addition, it allows us to avoid train crew being in the wrong place which can cause further disruption.  The revised timetable we have in place for Friday will help to ensure we make best use of our resources to deliver the most robust service we can for passengers should the forecasts prove accurate and will help our passengers plan ahead."

The normal service for Saturday has not yet changed, but the company warns of short-notice delays and cancellations.

Fewer trains and more stops meant the trains into London were completely rammed this morning-some very disgruntled commuters who were unable to get on the train by about Richmond. But no snow yet.

How ridiculous is it to run an emergency service in ANTICIPATION of problems?
