Barkham Road closed for water main repair

By Lewis Rudd

Engineers will have to close Barkham Road this evening to repair a burst water main, Thames Water has announced.

A full diversion will be put in place from 7pm as engineers work on the road in Barkham.

A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "Although water is coming out of the road, the break in the pipe has been hard to pin-point because it's under thick concrete.

"That's why we've had to take the regrettable step of closing the road while we do this job. We're sorry for the hassle this is causing road-users."

The problem was initially reported just after 8am today bringing traffic in the area to a standstill.

It was being looked at by a man in a van at 6pm the evening before when it had already been gushing out for a while ... sounds like an area to avoid for the next few days. The water is still gushing out from under a drain cover near Barkham Antiques, (where it is almost flooding across the width of the road) and from a few hundred yards away round the corner and up the hill towards Wokingham.
