The monster of the Emm Brook

April 01, 2009

An Angler was left reeling after he caught a rare giant catfish weighing almost 200lbs in the Emm Brook.

Toby Cudworth, 21, from Lower Earley, was fishing in the river behind supermarket Morrisons when he hooked the mighty monster.

It took the keen angler an hour to net the fish, which he then threw back in the small river.

Have you caught a monster fish in a Wokingham river? Tell your story here.

Mr Cudworth said: “I was fishing away, hoping to get a perch or a pike and there was this great surge of water and a bite.

“I thought I’d hooked a car, a lot of the line went before I even twigged what was happening.

“All of a sudden I was in the fight of my life."

His achievement has caused a bit of a stir among Wokingham's fishing community, with many anglers now rushing to the Emm Brook in a bid to catch the 'monster'.

Mick Hawkins, owner of D&M Tackle in Denmark Street, said his shop has seen an increase in visits from anglers since the mighty catch.
