Wokingham's Anna Watkins set a new Olympic world record in the Women's Double Sculls this morning as she and partner Katherine Grainger eased through to the final of the competition at Dorney Lake.
Team GB duo Grainger and Watkins (nee Bebington) – who won bronze in the same competition with rower Elise Laverick at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 – comfortably won their heat at the Berkshire venue with a time of 6:44:33.
The time is five seconds quicker then the previous record set by Germany at Barcelona in 1992.
The pair, who are among the favourites to land gold medals at the games, return to the water on Friday to contest the final.
