Kate, Beth and Jo qualify for national finals

Pinewood Gymnastics Club hosted the regional qualifiers for the National Club Grade Championships earlier this month.

Pinewood had three of their Women’s Artistic squad competing and produced some great results.

Kate Penden, aged nine, came fourth in her Grade Eight competition, showing an extremely mature attitude  as she was the youngest competitor in her group.

This result gave her a spot in the regional team and the chance to compete in the national finals.

Beth McKellar, 12, put in an incredible performance, overcoming a past fear of the Asymmetric Bars to come first in her Grade Six competition.

This also earned her a place in the regional team for the nationals.

Jo Hicks, also 12, did herself proud having not competed for almost two years due to injury.

She kept great composure and performed a number of new skills, including an impressive tucked Yurchenko vault.

Jo had a nasty fall during the warm-up period on the beam, but recovered with great professionalism to win her group in the Grade Five category.

The girls’ personal coach Ross Falsetta was overjoyed.

“I was so happy with all my girls today,” she said.

“Their hard work in training really paid off and I can’t wait to take them to Birmingham for the nationals".

The day was a huge success and Pinewood Gymnastics Club had great pleasure in hosting the event for the first time.

The club would like to wish Kate, Beth and Jo all the best in their future competitions.
