The team from Sand Martins Golf Club reigned supreme by destroying their opposition and booking the golfing trip of a lifetime last Thursday.

The Sand Martins team reached the finals of the British Captains Tournament by winning their qualifying round at the Finchampstead Road course last Thursday.

The team of captain Chris Leggate, Brian Kelly, Bob Lucas and Lee Dodd returned an excellent score of 84 points to leave them 12 under par.

They took the top prize by an amazing six points from nearest rivals Southsea Golf Club of Portsmouth, who themselves scored a very creditable 6 under par 78 points.

The tournament requires the captain to score on every hole, with the team selecting their best score to add to that of the captain.

The prize that now awaits them is a five-day trip for the whole team to the golf capital of Vilamoura in Portugal in December, where they will meet the winning teams from other regions to compete over three days for the title of British Captain 2008.

The team have also qualified for the 2009 Tournament and will have another chance to repeat their superb performance next year.
