Right Royall win for Sophie and the team

Wokingham & Bearwood Open Horse Trials team finished second in a hotly contested competition in Larkhill last month.

With competitors vying to qualify for the three-day championships at Offchurch, Warwickshire in August, the qualifier was of a very high standard, challenging competitors to complete a dressage test and show jumping/cross-country of 1.1m.

Wokingham and Bearwood’s team of Sophie Royall on Dragon Flyer (pictured right), Gemma Sayers on Norwich Lad and Jackie Jenkins on J’s Super Samuel all put in great performances in all three disciplines.

This was a fantastic result as they were a team of three rather than four so all scores had to count – it is also the first year WBRC have entered a team at this level for a numner of years.

Sophie led from the start with the best dressage score and only added 0.5 cross country time penalties to finish individual first, meaning she has qualified for the championships.

Gemma and Jackie finished a very credible eighth and ninth, and would have been placed even higher had they not started with penalties for having previously won BE points.

Well done to all and good luck to Sophie at the championships later this month.
