Ellington puts Keep Hatch kids to the test

23/11/2007

Great Britain sprinter James Ellington put children from Keep Hatch Primary School through their paces last week.

Ellington, who came seventh in the Junior World Championships, visited the Wokingham school in Ashridge Road and took the pupils on a sponsored fitness circuit which included star jump and press-up exercises.

They gathered for an assembly with Ellington who talked to the children about his early life, achievements, experiences and training schedule.

Then with two volunteers – Lawrence Farrow and Kiera Gilbey – Ellington demonstrated his warm up routine and showed pupils how GB athletes pass the relay baton.

The children then had the opportunity to quiz him on who is heroes are and his diet.

Ellington said his inspiration was Linford Christie while admitting he had the odd treat as part of his healthy diet programme.

The children have raised £1,000 through their sponsorship which will go towards helping 16 and 17-year-old junior GB athletes.

The rest will go towards purchasing new athletic and gymnastic equipment for the school.
