Delaney returns to London Irish as forwards coach
By Alan ManicomMay 24, 2012
Glenn Delaney has quit as Nottingham’s director of rugby to return to London Irish as their new forwards coach.
The 38-year-old was a member of Exiles’ 2002 Powergen Cup-winning squad, coming off the bench in their 38-7 win over Northampton Saints.
And he will link up with Shaun Edwards in director of rugby Brian Smith’s new-look coaching set up.
Delaney was born in New Zealand and began his career with Linwood before going on to play for Tokyo, Coventry, Nottingham and Narbonne.
He said: “It’s great to be returning to London Irish.
"I enjoyed plenty of good times here as a player and I am sure I will experience the same as a coach.
“Brian Smith and Shaun Edwards are two fantastic coaches and I look forward to working alongside both of them.”
Smith said: “Glenn is a former London Irish player who is well aware of the values and traditions of the club.
“He was also a part of the triumphant Powergen Cup winning side so he can pass his experiences onto the new London Irish squad who are keen to replicate Glenn’s generation’s success.”
