Reading FC double in Premier League monthly awards

By Jonny Fordham
February 06, 2013

Reading manager Brian McDermot and his super-sub Adam Le Fondre have scooped the Premier League's manager and player-of-the-month awards for January.

Royals picked up seven points from 12 to claw their way out of the relegation zone thanks largely in part to Le Fondre's five goals in just 68 minutes on the pitch in the league.

Striker Le Fondre, who has been tipped for a future England call-up, said: "It's fantastic to win the award, I'm buzzing for myself and the rest of the team. I want to keep this scoring run going right through until the end of the season and hopefully we can stay up."

And McDermott, who takes his team to Stoke on Saturday, added: "It's fantastic to win it, the team and staff at the club have done a fantastic job in the last month.

Oh no the kiss of death

Thats the way Reading have to do it look for up and coming talent & McD is good at it.

Finding players up and coming. Thats are game ok sometimes it will not come off but that happens with big buys.

Lets be honest who, worth big money would come to Reading over say the top London clubs.

We just have to be careful not to sign old players that just want the money and not play.

Alf's strike rate: 7 shots on target 5 goals!! Now he's been placed on a pedestal many on here will take great pleasure in knocking him off. Also, so many on here say that "all RFC do is buy players from lower leagues, and its not good enough". Well Alf has proved you wrong in no time at all, just like many others have. I really hope he continues to improve and then maybe we'll sell him on for another small fortune. Remember this is the Reading way and it brings us continual success. Well done Alf, Brian and especially well done to a very well ran club.

For God's sake give them both back before the jinx strikes us with double severity!

There must be others more deserving - how about Harry and one of his expensive signings?!
