Trevor Senior backs Le Fondre for England spot

Royals’ record goal-scorer Trevor Senior has called on England boss Roy Hodgson to take a close look at Adam Le Fondre.
Hodgson’s right-hand man Ray Lewington was at Madejski Stadium as Le Fondre stepped off the bench to bag his 11th and 12th goals in all competitions this season in Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Although Le Fondre has only started 10 league games this campaign, his eye for goal has seen him become one of the highest scoring Englishmen in the Premier League.
Senior, who netted 191 times for Reading in two spells at the club during the 1980s and early 1990s, said: “Anybody who scores goals at the top level needs to be looked at.
“I know Reading have been in the bottom three for most of the season, but he’s been scoring against top sides. It wouldn’t hurt to take a look at him.
“Brian McDermott knows him better than me, though, so it’s hard to say. But what I like about Le Fondre is that he is always moving and anticipating things.
“That’s close to my own heart as it’s what I used to do. He’s a lot better than me, though. He’s not the biggest of players, but he gets in the right positions.”
McDermott revealed that he spoke to Le Fondre about the possibility of him breaking into the Three Lions set-up when the striker was signed for a bargain £300,000 from Rotherham United in the summer of 2011.
Royals’ boss said: “I’m not picking Roy’s team, but I would say Alfie could score for England from the bench. His record is phenomenal.”
And Senior no longer believes his old club will be relegated, saying: “Having been there for the Chelsea game, I am going to have to change my opinion now.
"What was apparent from that game was that it was a real team performance.”

Alf should get a run at playing for England, 12 goals so far this season. He should be up around 18 goal mark or if not more to wards the end of the season.
No doubt there will some old crud saying no to his place in an England shirt.

Season ticket holder for 28years thanks Y20 for the last decade, you???
SJM is still very much part of the club as he still owns 49% of it and retained the hotel complex.
Next question?

I was surprised that Lambert wasn't considered, as they can't use the 'not starting' line against him. If Alf had registered half this season's tally, coming off the bench, at any of about 8 clubs (usual suspects, including West Ham) I suspect he'd be in the squad.

Agree with Robsy that there is no way that Wellbeck and Carroll should be any anywhere near the England squad, and they wouldn't be if they played for smaller clubs.
I don't think Le Fondre is ready to play internationally yet, but the likes of Lambert and Le Fondre should at least be invited to be part of the squad to gain a bit of experience. It seems OK to pick a random keeper from Birmingham (Butland) to get experience as they know a 3rd choice keeper has no chance of getting on the pitch, but they don't seem to be able to do the same for outfield players.

I suspect the idea of having any former Rochdale strikers in the squad would be beyond the pale - so thats Holt, Lambert, Le Fondre & Glenn Murray with no chance.(Go Rochdale!!)
They would much rather have overpaid & overrated players than people who have fought their way up through the leagues.
Danny Welbeck - 2 goals - Andy Carroll - 2 Goals - when you look at the stats why on earth would these two get in ahead??
Hope he continues banging in the goals for us to be honest...........
