Suspect it was Ryan Bertrand...with Ashley Cole signing a new contract, Ryan's wages being affordable for Reading, the fact that Reading could pay upto £6-7 mill for him, he's played for Reading before, Reading need a better left back and Chelsea are a team we've played recently (which seems to be when Reading try and provisionaly work out deals) adds to my suspicions. I guess Chelsea didn't want to lose a versatile player like Ryan. Nevermind, at least we haven't got Harry Redknapp squandering our teams money away. He spends money like the missus. Good man manager, terrible manager of numbers. Oh and Odemwingie what were you thinking?!

Should have put a bid in for Huddlestone from spurs good work rate excellent player just what we needed. Going for a player they more chance than getting than Jesus signing on the board of directors of RFC. Hammond time to go mate, been in the same job to long now got to comfortable with the position.

2336: READING LATEST Reading have confirmed that they failed with a club-record bid tonight.

Director of Football Nick Hammond said: "We have been working throughout the day on one last record deal to bring a player to the club but it hasn't come to fruition.

"We've made four very good signings in this window and you can see that the players we've brought in have already made an impact."

It was heavily rumoured that they were in the market for Blackpool winger Thomas Ince...

Just about sums Hammond up..Spend all day chasing 1 signing and not a chance off getting them ..What no back up option or no one else worth buying.....

Think we are going about it the right way, if I was a QPR fan I would be very worried. Harry has already destroyed Pompey with his wild spending spree, could he finish off QPR too ? They get relegated and they are finished !

Experienced or not, Yacouba Sylla is now a Premier League player with Aston Villa. The 22-year-old defensive midfielder has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal and says he is thrilled to be part of the "dynamic and exciting young team" being built by Paul Lambert.

Daily Mirror chief football writer Martin Lipton is keeping his ear to the ground with the London clubs today.

He says: "Looks like it will be all quiet on the Chelsea front. No expectation at the Bridge that there will be anybody in or out today.

"Not sure Rafa Benitez will be entirely happy with that, but nothing he can do about it.

"Do believe Spurs chairman Daniel Levy thinks he could still pull off the capture of Brazilian Leandro Damiao, although time is short and the odds are against the Tottenham chief pulling it off.

"Internacional want £25m for the striker."
