Manchester City 1 Reading FC 0

By Jonny Fordham
December 22, 2012

Join Reading Post football reporters Jonny Fordham and Jonathan Low live from the Etihad Stadium as Reading FC face Manchester City.

Reading have a reasonable record against Manchester City – winning seven, drawing five and losing the other 11.

Their most recent meeting was a FA Cup quarter-final in March 2011 at a packed-out Etihad Stadium. Right-back Micah Richards’ 74th-minute header broke Royals’ hearts in the North West.

Jonny writes: "This is the ultimate David vs Goliath game in the Premier League.

The mega-rich Champions Man City will be red-hot favourites against rock-bottom Royals.

No matter how much spirit and fight Royals have, they severely lack the skill and quality needed to compete against a side like this.

Reading will do well to escape from the Etihad with just a 3-0 defeat."

We had a goal scored against city @ Sunderland which was clearly off side, we had a goal scored against us @ stoke , clear hand ball crouch, the FACT are you sometimes get them and sometimes you don't, also shorey every time I watch the replay didn't make attempt to jump, Barry wanted the ball more, If you want the game to be non contact then it's time to pack it in, it's a game for girls even now, you can't even touch any1

"Punching above our weight". Are we really Brian. Would have thought that is the last thing we have done this season.

Fully deserved a draw. As I sat in my seat in the lower teraace, we were all happy and surprised to be holding the champions at 0-0 for so long. We were gutted on the train on way home. Even Man City fans said we did well and deserved a point. Not agree with some of McD selections, but formation was spot on, cruel that they scored in 90+ minutes, that's what happens when teams are at the bottom , no luck. Regarding the goal, could have been given a foul, but Shorey didn't jump for it, so up for much discussion. This is a game that we CAN take some positives, and apart from the result, hope that McD has learnt that although its not a pretty way to play football, we need to setup like this against superior opposition.

Can't wait for the McDermott interview

'The fans need to remember how far we have come in the last 3 years. Today we held the Champions until injury time and then they needed the the help of ref. We can take a lot of positives from that'

Bottom line is, foul or no foul with 30 seconds to go they should never have been allowed to get a cross in. If it was in our favour he wouldn't complain.

Reading have at least 8 points fewer than when they were last relegated, are 6 points from safety and bottom of the league at Christmas. If we stay up Brian will deserve to be called Staint Brian because it would have been a miracle!

No one has survied the drop with these stats at Xmas.
