Guthrie vows to fight for Reading FC place
By Jonny FordhamOctober 29, 2012
Danny Guthrie has vowed to fight for his place at Reading.
Sources told the Reading Post that manager Brian McDermott and Guthrie had a disagreement after the team was announced for Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Fulham.
Guthrie was pulled from the starting XI and didn't even make the bench, but he has told the Post that there was no issue with his manager’s decision.
He explained: "I spoke to the manager and he had his reasons for not picking me and that remains between us - there was no bust-up.
"It's frustrating for me because I want to help this team. Not having that win has made it harder, but I know the first one of the season is just around the corner."
Guthrie has been victim of formation on several occasions and he has been unable to get a run in the side in his preferred position at the heart of the midfield.
"I understand that some games I might have to play out of position,” he added.
“My best position still remains in central midfield and that's where I played my best football for Newcastle United last season.
"It's a given that I just have to get on with it and work hard in training for now and make sure I'm ready and fully prepared when I'm needed.
"I feel that I have a lot of experience in this league. I've played in the Premier League for most of my career and know how to win games."
Some Royals fans have openly criticised Guthrie for not being a team player after he decided to stay away from Saturday’s game.
But his manager McDermott said: “I think that is a bit harsh to say something like that.
“Danny has been here a short period of time and Danny needs to get into our ways.
“He's got to train really well, get himself in the squad, in the team and go from there.”

we not winning games so we need to find the right formula you can only stick by players for so long then you've got to try something different in terms of types of players..

I think its more a case of having too many types of bird in one cage, than too many birds.
If Guthrie doesn't play tonight then I'll mark Anfield as the last place he wore a Reading shirt. Tonights game is huge! Not so much that Reading could start thinking about a serious cup run, but that assuming McD plays a relative second string squad, those players can really put their claim on making the regular XI and maybe even a change in tactics.

So funny that this is sooooo newsworthy when it happens to an EPL player....when it also happens to hundreds of players up & down the country from the Sunday leagues upwards every week
Dropped - Rant - Hugs & kisses - Back in squad.
