Reading and Newcastle United have met just 12 times in all competitions. Royals have won three of those, drawing one and losing the other eight.

The last time these sides met was on Tuesday, April 13 when Kevin Nolan netted twice to sink Reading 2-1. Danny Simpson scored an own goal.

Good game, shame about the result...thought Shorey & C#mmings looked really good and the performance across the team was much improved. Wasn't impressed with Jobes in 1st half but had a storming 2nd. Much happier.

Oh and well done Brian for changing it around, it might not have been the win we need, but it should've been.

BTW - GetReading, Can you remove C#mmings from your filter please?

Our performance warranted three points, we had much better possession than of late and with a bit of luck would have scored more! The game did prove the point that a team is vulnerable to concede just after scoring we must keep the back door shut for 90 mins. We needed to up the work-rate of that Spurs defeat, and we did! that was more like the old Reading. URZ

Great game. Defence still a bit of a concern but otherwise great team performance. Refereeing definitely one sided against Reading. If the team play like that every game won't mind where we finish.

Wow! A centre half that can use his feet! Mariappa also likes to get forward. He can play in midfield and I'd like to see him play just in front of Pearce and Gorkks. Was also very good to see all the wingers on song. MCcarthy's confidence has grown, collecting crosses with ease and much better distribution. Consistency and confidence is the key for all of the team. Harte has been a great servant for us but he needs to step back to championship level if he wants to play on a regular basis, so IMO he will find it very hard to get back into the side as it will also be for Federici.

Just think how the league should look accept for the REF/LINESMAN. chelsea still top on gaol diff with 13pts newcastle should be 8th -1 goal diff READING 14th on 7pts Time some thing done about bad referee's

The reason they hadn't played like that before was because that team hadn't played before!

Lets hope McD largely sticks with yesterdays team.

Hunt was fantastic winning virtually every header. Perhaps Roberts for The Pog. McAnuff and Leggs can stay in if they perform every game - not 1 in 6.

Good result we deserved the win, the ref needs to look at the replay. Talk about the hand of god. That's football and we will be talking about that incident for years to come. Yes i admit before any of you try to get the boot in i was one of those giving the club a slagging off last week or two. Saturday they proved me wrong, my question is why did'nt they play like that against Spurs? They still need to have the consistancy for every game now. Lets hope they can build on this and improve their league standing. Still need to bring more experience and depth for the Jan window.

Its got to be consistancy every game now

Really was a great performance today, we war by far the better team and very unlucky not to win, thought jem as usual worked his bits off and had a great game

A much improved display. Being honest most Reading fans would have taken a point before kick-off. However, we played well and United were not so great. We really have to shut up shot a bit more. It is a really tough league. At least the performance was there. Things look better than they did a week ago.
