Jimmy Kebe targets QPR cup clash

Jimmy Kebe will play in a behind-closed-doors game at Reading’s training ground today.

Manager Brian McDermott has arranged an inter-squad game to give the winger minutes on the pitch ahead of an anticipated return from injury against Queens Park Rangers in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday.

Kebe has been ruled out since July with a hamstring tear and will definitely miss tomorrow’s game at West Brom (3pm kick-off).

McDermott said: “It’s good to get Jimmy back.

“He will probably train again on Saturday with a view to playing in that game at QPR.”

Striker Jason Roberts is still a few days off making his return after a calf injury blighted the start of his season.

The 34-year-old has taken longer than expected to recover from what was initially a minor strain and his return can’t come quickly enough as Royals seek their first Premier League win.

“We need Robbo back too,” continued McDermott. “Jimmy and Robbo are really important players amongst our squad.

“Robbo is training on his own with the physios at the moment and we will see how he is next week to start training with the group.

“I don’t want to put a time scale on it, though.”

McDermott also recognises the need for his side to give the fans something to cheer about after their poor display against Spurs last Sunday.

A 1,500 away following will be backing McDermott’s men at The Hawthorns tomorrow, and McDermott added: “I’m sure the fans will stick by us and give us a really good reception.

“Our players need to do something to get the fans behind them.

“If we do that, then we will be absolutely fine.”

I wish someone would put a time scale on Jason Roberts returning to the first team - give me something to look forward to.....

Hopefully no more svhool boy errors in defence! Have a real go at them from the first whistle.
