Royals' new stars will look to prove they have the X-Factor in Portugal.

As part of the initiation for new recruits, players are expected to sing a song of their choice to the whole squad.

However, because manager Brian McDermott has added six new first-teamers this summer, captain Jobi McAnuff is pondering whether to drag the initiation out throughout their time in Portugal

And Chris Gunter, who admits that he is far from pitch perfect, is dreading it.

The right-back said: “There might be one song a night.

“All the talk has been about the song since we got to Portugal and I’m not looking forward to it one bit.

“The guys keep talking about who is going to be singing what, video-recording it and stuff. The sooner it is done the better.

“I think there’s a fine if you want to pay that instead, but it’s quite a lot so I think I will just have to get it done.”
