Simon Church netted a 15-minute hat-trick as Reading ran riot at AFC Wimbledon.

The Wales striker showed clinical finishing against the League Two side - with Adam Le Fondre scoring with a first-half penalty and then a delightful chip before the break.

Jordan Obita smashed home a sweet volley on the edge of the box and Michail Antonio scored a header as Brian McDermott's men got their pre-season campaign into full swing.

"I'm delighted for Churchy," beamed McDermott after the game.

"We all know what a great guy he is. All of the players know that, the staff around him, he's a fantastic guy to work with every day.

"It was a fantastic finish from Alfie for his second, and then Churchy 's finishes were really good goals. I was delighted for him and the whole group, everyone involved.

"The game was really good, I thought the players showed a fabulous attitude in both halves. We used 23 players and it shows we've got what we think is a good group.

"Jordan scored, Michail scored and I thought we played some really good football at times.

"It was good for the new guys to fit in and I thought you saw some of the qualities they're going to bring, so all in all it was a good exercise."

Royals jet off to Portugal on Wednesday and the Post will be there every step of the way for the 10-day tour.

"We're looking forward to Portugal," added McDermott.

"It will be good to get the lads away, we get the new lads together, everyone integrates. The most important thing is to have everyone going in the same direction, and you can see we've got that in our club."

Any chance of telling us the score?

I hear you mate, just thinking he'll struggle this season with the step up, but hope I'm wrong!

To be fair, it depends on the feed from the midfield, so hopefully, this will improve his chances (if he plays!)

Looking forward to it now, bring it on......

Think that's a bit harsh Dave. He played well for us last season. He's never going to be a clinical finisher, but the talent is there.

I think Simon has found his level, will be a bit more difficult against Prem defenders. Just hope the new Russian lad hits the net......
