Zingarevich to complete Reading FC takeover this week

By Jonny Fordham
April 26, 2012

Anton Zingarevich's £25 million takeover of Reading FC will be completed this week, according to chairman Sir John Madejski.

The deal has been fully agreed and Royals are waiting for the Football League and Premier League to finish their background checks into Zingarevich’s finances.

The 30-year-old Russian, who is the son of billionaire timber tycoon Boris Zingarevich, was originally due to purchase 51 per cent of the club by March 31.

But Madejski said last week that despite the delay, the takeover would go through this week.

“All bodes well for Reading Football Club,” said Madejski, who turns 71 on Saturday.

“Let’s dot the i’s and cross the t’s. Let’s make sure, perfectly sure, that what’s going forward is going forward and so therefore everybody’s happy.

“I’m sure it’s going to happen but I think it is right and proper that the league have got to be very circumspect.

“We want to make sure that the deal is completely watertight for the sake of the club going forward. But that should all pan out.

“All these questions will be answered substantially and at the end of the day the Premier League are not going to allow people into the league unless they are fit for purpose and indeed that they’ve got the money to do what they say they are going to do.”

Depends if they were referring to the working week. If they were, then time is up. Doubt solicitors or the PL investigators work over the weekend. Hopefully, will be done next week then... would be nice to see who TSI's other investors are.

Most in the media (except SJM) seem somewhat concerned at the history of these guys. Don't think SJM would sell us down the river just to get a few millions back out. Be glad when we see proper evidence of their input and intentions.

"I just hope we can trust this guy and not turn out like Pomey!"

....That's probably why it has taken so long, making sure we can, and won't.

Anton's Dad is worth over £3 billion, so £25 million is peanuts. Why has it taken so long?

I just hope we can trust this guy and not turn out like Pomey!

No matter how bad you consider Frodham to be, he, and the post are 100 times superior to the Chronicle.

I totally agree with Sir John's comments; everything has to be done properly and be above board. This is just normal checks. I trust Sir John's judgement as he would not have agreed to sell a controlling stake if he was not sure that Anton is fit and proper.

This makes it an even brighter future for Reading Football Club, fantastic.

This was on the Beeb last week... but given the news I couldn't care less how many times I re-read it!

Good news and fingers crossed! I'd love to finally hear maybe even have some form of stage on Sunday were SJM says his bit, finishes by telling us its all done and dusted within the last 24hrs then introduces a smiling Anton emerging from the tunnel, scarf draped and waving to give us our first proper "Hello and here's my plan" speech!

As for chucking stones at Fordham, bit harsh to say the least. He'll be over worked next season I imagine what with the media circus that comes with the PL. If he annoys you that much then lets hope maybe a big Paper come calling now his specialist topic will become mainstream. I can't imagine there's too many local news-hounds doing one-on-one forums each week for their local PL team.

Be fair, you check past articles, this TSI this week thing has been running over the past 2-3 weeks...have to say I caught mr Fordham out the other day when he tweeted that the Olympic teams were going to be announced (which was also on HNA i hacent to add)

Quickly corrected that it was only the draw!!

Fordham is terrible, just terrible. Without HNA? he'd have nothing to print.

In other news, there's rain on the way...
