Reading FC's Harte named in PFA Championship XI

By Jonny Fordham
April 23, 2012

Ian Harte has been named in the PFA Championship team of the year for the second season running.

Despite Reading being confirmed league champions on Saturday, Royals have just one representative in the side.

The 34-year-old is out of contract this summer and manager Brian McDermott is keen to keep him at Madejski Stadium for another 12-months.

Second-placed Southampton, who have been in the top two for the majority of the season, have three members of their squad in the team.

Championship: Kelvin Davis (Southampton), Nathaniel Clyne (Crystal Palace), James Tomkins (West Ham), Curtis Davies (Birmingham), Ian Harte (Reading), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Peter Whittingham (Cardiff), Mark Noble (West Ham), Matt Phillips (Blackpool), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Jay Rodriguez (Burnley).

Ian Harte has been a super player for Reading, 100% totally commited. I hope we reward this with a new contract.

   Well done Ian Harte.

Would like to know who the panel are made up of......can't believe Feds missed out. Clyne,Tompkins,Whittingham and Rodriguez.....really?

Congratulations and well done to Ian Harte.

I was a little surprised given that he hasn't been ever present and indeed struggled with his form & fitness in the early part of the season. His set pieces and being involved in the BEST defence in the Championship has been rewarded however so once again well done.

Unlucky Feds clearly some Anti-Australian feeling amongst your peers :-) -- Really not sure what else he could have done - 20 clean sheets, least amount of goals conceded and 244 saves - Davis a brilliant keeper of that there is no doubt but really not on the same level as Feds this year.

Whittingham - Last year yes - this year no not really - I thought Mason was better for them this year although prodominately a striker I guess?

Curtis Davies - hmmm I suspect that Hoovield, Pearce & Gorkks will be a little bemused by that but will no doubt savour the fact that they will be Premier League next year and Davies may not be.

I suppose it would greedy to expect Karacan to be in the side - but he must have made the bench!!

Finally it is worth remembering that Shane Long the best striker by a stretch last season didn't make the side -- So well done to Jay Rodriguez..... really..how?

URZZ!

Well done Ian! Certainly hope he gets a new contract for next year. His pace is definately an issue and a possible vulnerability, but he has been part of a brilliant defence over the past few months and done his share at the other end as well to more than merit a new contract.
