"And prospective new owner Anton Zingarevich was so keen for Royals’ boss to stay, that sources told the Reading Post the Russian’s 51-per-cent buyout of the club would have been in jeopardy had McDermott decided to leave"

So now the buyout depends on whether McD stays? Is that rumour or fact?

Perhaps the the owner has set his sights a little higher than a good Championship Manager? who knows what goes on behind the scenes?

"I thought Madejski would have learned from the McGhee saga with Leicester - gave Leicester permission to speak to McGhee, confident that McGhee would decide to stay. That confidence proved to be totally misplaced".

Harb: Perhaps you should change your opinion about SJM because it takes a great man to give any emplyee the freedom to do what he wants and not force him to do something he clearly doesn't want to do nor stifle his opportunity to improve his chances of achieving greater things especially when he knows perfectly well that by doing so will compromise his own position?

No chance Wolves - McDermott signed a new contract with Reading yesterday.

If he leaves it will seriously damage our promotion hopes for this season as we will almost certainly lose ground during the transition period of finding and appointing a new manager (remember Dillon when Pardew left) and then for the new manager to make his mark and establish a winning formula. At this stage even losing a point can make all the difference at the end of the season. Do we have anyone good enough in the ranks who knows the system well and could carry on where McD left off. After all BMcD was appointed from the ranks and we didn't have to resort to an outsider when BR left.

Personally my view has always been that once someone even thinks of leaving then he should be let go. I could understand any manager in our league wanting to go to a Premier club that was relatively safe from relegation but if he is offered and accepts the job he will be asked to save a sinking ship and even McGhee, who thought he could walk on water, only compounded Leicester's problems when he went there.

I'm sure we all agree that McD Is our best prospect for promotion this season so let's hope he stays but if not then we must remember Sir Winston Churchill's advice when faced with adversity- "KBO" (Keep B-gg-r-ng On)

He'd be mad to go, especially now. RFC have been good to him and I always got the impression he was loyal to the Club. But no one is bigger than the Club, so I'd be happy with Burnley's Eddie Howe as a replacement.

ajr111, you can't resign from a fixed term contract in the same manner as a normal employment contract. If you walk out your employer can take action against you (remember Pardew's garden).

It would be disappointing if McDermott was that keen to talk to Wolves.

if you don't allow him to speak to them then he could resign and then approach him anyway soon after

I believe he has been offered a new 4 year deal and accepted, to be fair to him he only had 3 months left and probably thought with no owners they could no renew in the summer and get a new manager in.

I thought Madejski would have learned from the McGhee saga with Leicester - gave Leicester permission to speak to McGhee, confident that McGhee would decide to stay. That confidence proved to be totally misplaced.

I would be staggered and exceptionally disappointed if McDermott decides to leave a club that he has been with for so long (and I'm pretty sure that he has says he loves), particularly now that the new funding appears to have dealt with his frustrations at having to repeatedly sell his best players to balance the books.

It's too late to save Wolves this season and in contrast Reading are on their way up. I really don't think that McDermott would be so stupid as to leave at this stage.

What is it with Reading; have we become a feeder club for Wolves? I cannot believe that Reading would even allow him to speak to them when he is under contract, unless he’s not happy about the new arrangements concerning the change of ownership. Loyalty is everything in life, so we will see.

I thought that Wolves had to ask permission to speak to a Club's manager before doing so??

If so, it looks like the Club's have given their blessing which is very poor!
