Reading FC are going to Wembley

By Andy Murrill
May 18, 2011

Reading stormed into a Wembley play-off final for the richest prize in football – a place in the Premier League – after a magnificent 3-0 win against Cardiff last night.

Two first half goals from Shane Long and an 84th minute individual piece of brilliance from Jobi McAnuff set Brian McDermott’s team up with a dream final against Swansea, managed by former Royals boss Brendan Rodgers, on Monday, May 30.

Cheered on by vocal travelling supporters and thrilled fans in pubs and living rooms across Reading, the Royals secured a place in the Wembley final reckoned to be worth £90 million to the winner.

McDermott said: “I’m delighted for the fans.”

Reading have been allocated 39,000 tickets for the Wembley final. Season ticket holder will be able to buy tickets from 9am tomorrow. Subject to availability, tickets will go on sale to the general public on Monday with a limit of four tickets per transaction.    I'm a Middlebrough supporter (i've an excuse I used to live nearby...) living in Reading. I've seen Reading play a few times and will be supporting them in spirit on Monday.

Go get it Royals!

PS

Please sell the club to a Russian or Arab dynasty...Reading FC needs serious investment and I think the current leadership is done with that.

Judging by the various queue lengths I would say there will be a lot of cheaper tickets available to member card holders -- almost three hours to get £76 tickets.

However secured and looking forward to it - I think........

i think if they have a season ticket then they should be allowed first refusal, however, the problem then lies with mates who have never bothered to go before deciding they'd actually like to bother now as its wembley and tagging on to a st holder. then membership card holders who don't have the privelage of being able to afford a season ticket or work shifts, therefore cannot make every match have to fight it out for the scraps even though they may have royalty points in the hundreds.

i had to go inthe bolton end when we were last there, although i had watched 75% of our matches that season and had to endure the sight of people turning up in family units with the dreaded picnic basket knowing they hadn't watched a single match for flipping years or ever at all, but got their tickets for the reading end.

smiffy, I know you mean well but thats rubbish isnt it. By marginalising member card holders like this the club have sent out the wrong message. I know people are high on this win but wake up a bit.

Robsy - agree that RFC can't win whatever they do. I respect that they want to reward season ticket holders and want to sell the tickets as quickly as possible. I wouldn't say that only allowing season tickets holders one ticket is daft, arguably it would be fairest, as season tickets would still have 1st stab at the best seats. However, RFC just want to make sure 39000 tickets are sold and allowing season ticket holders to bring a guest helps with that. I think the reality is that there should be enough tickets for member card holders that want them, they just won't be able to take any additional mates with them.

When my team, Hull City, got there 3 years ago, I still managed to get a ticket despite not having a season ticket (living in Reading makes attendance to most Hull City games rather expensive!), and the remaining tickets to non season-ticket holders sold out, but yet there were still plenty available from those that had bought too many tickets.

Paid £60 and was in the higher echelons - but such an amazing day. Worth every penny.

Whatever system is put in place is going to cause some consternation. Swansea season ticket holders get to buy 3 tickets - effectively meaning that if they all buy 3 - that would be pretty much it!

Much as I would like to get 3 tickets surely that would be really unfair on member card holders?

Being a ST holder I will use my first in the queue status to get better seats as I suspect many will - which will surely leave more cheaper tickets for member card holders.

Short of only allowing ST holders just 1 ticket (which would be daft) I think Reading have done this as fairly as possible.

Anyhow - Wembley! - come on URZZZ

Bushes, Wookie is suggesting that you never leave your house as that will take you away from your PC so that you will not be able to comment on GetReading. But then he askes the question wether you have an I-phone type device that still allows you to post comments whilst out and about. Lardy Da

Thank you for the clarification Lardy Da. If I knew it was such a pathetically childish wind-up I would never have bothered! Thanks all the same though.

   The Realist -

When we get a corner we tend to make a weird monkey noise to generate some intital atmosphere, it may just be this that she's hearing. Sometimes this is followed by a long drawn out rendition of 'Come on you Royals....Come on you Royals' and then some clapping.

Clap clap, clap clap clap, clap clap clap clap, Reading!

Hope this helps! :)

Went to the game last night and it was an absolutely amazing performance from the team and the fans. I actually live in Wales and go to a school full of Cardiff supporters so will have the bragging rights for the next few weeks! Can't wait for Wembley!!
