Reading legend Grant won't celebrate if Saints score

Former Royals kitman Ron Grant will be laying out the shirts for Southampton on Saturday, but insists he won’t celebrate if they score.

Grant spent nearly 17 years as Reading’s kitman and retired from his duties at Madejski Stadium last year.

He was well-known for celebrating with the players such as James Harper and striker Leroy Lita when they scored.

Royals boss Brian McDermott said: “Ron phoned me the other day to say it was just a temporary thing and that his allegiances still lay with us.

“He’s just helping out Alan Pardew while they look for a new kitman. Ron’s promised me that if they score he won’t be celebrating and that he will be sitting on has hands for the duration of the game.”

Loyal Royal Grant is helping out Saints manager Alan Pardew  as the League One side look for a new kitman to fill the vacant position at St Mary’s.

Pardew and Grant worked together when the former West Ham United boss was in charge of Reading from 1999 to 2003.

Ron is an absolute legend and thoroughly nice bloke. He lives across the road and him and his wife Vera are some of the nicest neighbours you could wish for. He should be made in to some sort of club president or representative like Bobby Charlton at Manchester United.

Ronn Grant should still be at Reading in some capacity. Legend is about right.
