Chelsea loanee Ryan Bertrand won’t let the disappointing defeat against Aston Villa play on his mind ahead of Wednesday’s game against Championship rivals Derby County.

The 20-year-old left back has played the most games for an outfield player this season at Reading with 30 league appearances and another seven cup outings.

And although the England Under-21 international is relatively inexperienced in comparison to the rest of his defensive partners, Bertrand knows how important it is to be in the right mindset ahead of tomorrow’s game.

He said: “It’s getting towards the business end of the season and we have a massive chance to get away from the bottom of the league.

“We're annoyed about the Villa result, but it's important we get over it as quick as we can.

“It's an important game and it's also important we win against the teams that are in and around us, it's a massive game again.

“Playing at home, we've showed really good form of late, even though we lost against Villa it was still a decent performance that we put in for the first 45 minutes in particular.”

After the Rams clash Royals will then face Bristol City at Madejski Stadium on Saturday before another home game against Neil Warnock’s QPR a week today.

   @Big P

Sure, we've generated a lot of cash from the cup, but do you really believe that means it'll be made available for purchasing players? Remember that we're still getting parachute payments and they stop at the end of this season, so I wouldn't expect much of a war chest despite extra the revenue.

I agree it would be nice to have Armstrong back - but having been out for so long there's no guarantee he'll still have the quality he had before.

Besty, pinning your hopes on Armstrong coming back is a massive gamble. He was blighted by injury at Sheff Utd and is having the same issue with us. As much as I like him I'd be surprised if he ever played regularly again for us.

Bertrand certainly has his faults and I'm still cursing him for his cock up of a clearance that led to Villa's first goal and gave them the momentum to go on and win. However, for such a young lad I think he has bags of talent and will only get better. He's a damn site better than short Cummings, but I can't see him making Chelski's starting XI for some time yet, even if Cashley remained injured. So hopefully we can secure him for another season long loan at least.

Asides trying to keep our on-loan defenders I hope JM makes a big effort to keep our youngsters too. Gylfi and Church are the future, Hamer, Henry, HRK and Pearce possibly. I'd also like to see us keep Davies too. He really impressed me pre-season with his good engine and a cracking shot. I think he played full back in the Didcot game and looked at home there, even if it was against poor opposition. Then again Gylfi looked great in that game and look at him now. URZ

Bertrand made a poor mistake for the first goal - should have cleared with his right rather than pass it with his left!

However he has been very solid for most of the season and I reckon it would great to get him on loan again or buy (if we can afford)

Yes we have Armstrong and he is a quality player but he has not come back from injury yet which is a similar injury which almost ended his career when he was at Sheff Utd. I fear for him - so we should tie up any chance we have at getting Bertrand.

I am sure McD will have targets in mind - but I doubt anything much will be done until the summer - mainly because by then we will know the division we will be playing in.

The questions should be asked now are they going to try and keep those players or do we want to go through the rubbish like at the start of the season? The ball is JM's court.

   @ Doc Dave

.....and how much additional revenue have we generated from the Cup run that I doubt we would ahve budgeted for?!

We can afford him. Whether he is for sale and whether we are prepared to paid for him is the usual question mark.

We totally need to buy this kid - he's been outstanding and consistent most of the season. Can't see us affording him though 'cos his valuation I'm sure will reflect his quality and potential.

Mental note for Ryan Bertrand - when a player is very left footed (for example Stewart Downing and Chris Brunt) try to stop them from cutting inside you onto their left foot and putting in crosses (for example the goals conceeded against West Brom and Villa).

Well Jonny are you going to ask Reading management if they going to try and sign those loan players on a perminant basis. like i have said those players are starting to jell now and you have got some good things to come from this present team if they are kept together. Supporters need to keep the pressure to sign those loan players.
