February is key to Reading FC's Championship survival

Reading are set to play a series of key fixtures this month that could make or break their season.

Following on from Saturday's 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers, Royals have a six-pointer against Plymouth Argyle at Madejski Stadium tomorrow (8pm kick-off).

Paul Mariner’s side turned over Royals 4-1 at Home Park in December and Brian McDermott’s charges will be looking for revenge in their own back yard.

The Pilgrims are sitting one place below Royals in 23rd-place and are five points behind their opposition.

The league focus is then broken up by a return to the FA Cup against Championship rivals West Brom in the fifth round, again at home on Saturday.

After that Royals will travel to Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace who have just been deducted 10 points for entering administration.

McDermott then takes his team to Bloomfield Road on Saturday, February 20 to play Blackpool before taking on Newcastle United at home on Tuesday 23.

They end the month with another six-pointer against Alan Irvine’s Sheffield Wednesday at Madejski Stadium.

But McDermott is refusing to look too far into the future as he insists on taking each game as it comes.

He said: “If I was a forecaster I would go and put money on it down at the bookies, but you can’t forecast games, it’s pointless.

“I think once you start trying to forecast and predict things people start getting anxious.  All we can do is look at the next game and try and win that.”

* Tickets for Royals’ FA Cup fifth round tie against Roberto Di Matteo’s Baggies are on general sale. Fans can get hold of theirs by visiting www.readingfc.co.uk calling 0844 249 1871 or by going to the ticket office in person.

Lets be positive - when we win tomorrow we could be just 10 points from the play offs!

Special offer for all supporters renewing their season tickets!

3 games at home 2 away. 10 points would be a good haul the way the league table is looking at the moment with 6 points separate 22nd to 12th! Reading are looking better prepared under McD than under Buck - Other than the loony reffing in the last 15 mins on Saturday the 'R's had it all under control. Impressed with Long who looks to have come on a bit under McD - Mills & Griffin make us look more solid at the back whilst Howard had his best game for Reading. Special praise for Feds who pulled of a world class save in the dying moments to keep all three points for Reading.

Think we need to capitilse on our home games till the end of the season and if we grab a few victories like this against others then we should be alright.
