Snow halts Reading FC's training for Swansea City clash

By Matt Sadler
December 22, 2009

Reading's preparations for Boxing Day's clash with Swansea City have been hit by the atrocious weather.

Royals were due to train at Hogwood Park today, but the planned session was cancelled after heavy snowfall.

Caretaker boss Brian McDermott admitted that training inside the Dome was a possibility, but he felt driving conditions were too dangerous to ask the players to make their way to Madejski Stadium.

He said: "We could have gone in the Dome, but it was the travelling side of things and it took my six hours to get home on Monday night, so we didn’t think we should risk it.

"It’s not ideal, but we will just have to get on with it the best we can. We will hopefully get the players in for the rest of the week ahead of the Swansea game and get back to Hogwood as not having a grass pitch to train on is a bit of an issue."

we all know footballers get wrapped in cotton wool and think they are far superior than normal working class people who pay to watch them who earn bucket loads of money.. but like harb says not being able to drive when they've all probably got 4x4 range rover sports is laughable

Get them in the gym and work on some fitness and talk about the game we have boxing day and how you want them to play and then put into practice when you can train..

Too dangerous for them to drive?!

Most other employees in proper jobs still had to drive to work and I doubt many of them can afford to drive top of the range 4x4s!!
