Ivar Ingimarsson rejects Reading FC's contract offer

Ivar Ingimarsson has rejected Reading’s latest one-year contract extension, but talks are still on going between the club and their talismanic captain.

The retired Iceland international has made 222 appearances for Royals since signing on at Madejski Stadium in 2003 and is currently the club’s second longest serving player behind James Harper.

The Reading Post understands that the 32-year-old is holding out for a two-year deal, but due to his age and injury problems last season Reading are reluctant to offer him a longer deal right now.

Ingimarsson said: “At the moment it’s just talk, nothing really has come out of it.

“They have made me an offer, but it has come to me and I’ve put it back to them and at the moment it is in their hands and we’ll see what happens.

“I’m waiting to see what comes out of it, I’m very happy here and if the club wants me then it shouldn’t be difficult. It takes two to sort it out though and at the moment we’re just talking.”

So far this season fellow Iceland star Gylfi Sigurdsson has agreed a new deal until 2012 along with winger James Henry who is currently on loan at Milwall.

Another Iceland international, 33-year-old midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson is also out of contract this summer as he was handed a one-year deal before the start of the season.

At this moment it is understood that Gunnarsson has yet to open talks with the club.
