Andre Bikey may go to save World Cup spot
By Jonny FordhamAugust 14, 2009
Andre Bikey may have to sacrifice his Reading career in pursuit of his ultimate World Cup dream.
Burnley have made a £2.8million bid for the defender and Royals boss Brendan Rodgers admitted: “We’ve had an offer and we’ll just wait and see on that one.
“If players are looking to move on it’s purely a personal ambition, there’s no one crying to leave here. This is also a World Cup year, those in the international reckoning will feel that they have to be playing at the very highest level to have a chance to go to a World Cup.
“He has many competitors in the Cameroon squad, who he may feel will be in front of him unless he’s playing at the highest level.”
And Owen Coyle admitted: “He’s one of a number of players we’ve made enquiries about. It’s obviously in the public domain for whatever reason but we’ll see where it goes.
“If I was talk about everyone I’ve spoken to in the last week or so then we’d be here all day.
“I’m always reluctant to speak about other team’s players, but I think it’s fair enough to say I believe he’s a very gifted player, loads of pace, loads of power.
“I can’t really say too much more on that."
