Kevin Doyle in talks with Wolves

By Nick Ive
June 22, 2009

Kevin Doyle is in talks with Premier League new boys Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I understand the Republic of Ireland international has held discussions with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy over the past couple of days concerning a move.

Reading have already resigned themselves to losing their talismanic front man after failing to clinch promotion back to the top flight last season.

Doyle has a £6.5million clause in his contract allowing him to talk to any interested club.
Aston Villa, Everton and Bolton are all monitoring the situation, but Wolves look like they are now in pole position for the player who has netted 56 goals in 164 appearances for Reading.

Doyle is currently recovering from a calf strain.

3.5 hours, Wolverhampton to Reading? On what form of transport, horse?

It's quite unwise for a Reading fan to get into a debate with a Wolves fan about passionate support, I think...

laughingwolf, for once you are correct the game here was indeed a Tuesday evening game. Also I am surprised you didn't pick up on royalsteves lack of geographical knowledge....Matejovsky represents which country?

Oh and laughingwolf nice to see your team has finally caught up with Reading in the number of seasons they will have played in the premier league!

Royal steve also considering that we finished about 20 points above Burnley and they wont be strengthening a great deal it is rather silly to suggest they will finish above us. Burnley, Hull, Blues, Pompey (major cut backs) will finish below us

royalsteve you are obviously an arm chair fan and never go! We played on a tuesday evening. You did do the double over us but how many points behind us did you finish?

Remember one thing if Doyle goes and they get some good money for him. Will they reinvest that money back into knew players? Because the other clubs will not be messing around this season, they will be spending some money on players. The likes of NewCastle will not be hanging around. Reading will be struggling this year sorry to say, squad is not strong enough. They need to look at the depth. There are some good quality players out there and you do not have to spend millions Copple showed the way on that one. So the owner better start thinking about getting how he is going to respond to the crowd when they are sitting near the bottom of the table this coming season.

   laughingwolf....

I was at the your place and we took more than 300....there were nearly 800 actually as alot of people bought on the day, 300 is what we pre-sold.

Also, we played on a midweek game, you played at ours on a saturday so of course you will lots more!!

Also, most of work here....i work in Brum, so know that unemployment is massive in Brum and the surrounding areas - eg over 20% in West Midlands (quote local tv) against one if not the lowest unemployment here (<1%)

You are the worst champions ever and will finish second bottom to brum who are even worse....oh we beat you twice with ease....certainly away when 3-0 flattered you...should have been 6-0

Your fans the most fickle ever when we beat you...it was all doom and gloom - BUT your first defeat in 10-11...what a joke...

Also, since when does the size of the crowd dictate how good your team is, who cares....just ask any muppet from Norwich (im glad they went done)

Also, We cant get more than 24000 in our ground, so re: prem grounds, your point being...for what its worth the Chelsea game in the first season we could have sold 3 times capacity (fact from the club at the time)

We have 12 full internationals .. used to have more but alot have left now (Shorey/USA/Fae/ Doyle(Ireland) Hunt(Ireland) Hunt(Ireland) Long (Ireland) Cisse (Mali) Matejosky (Czechslovakia) Federici (Aussie) Bikey (Cameroon) Gunnarsson (Iceland) Ingemarsson (Iceland) Kebe (Mali) Church (Wales)

He's every bit as good as S.E.B. He's stronger in some areas, weakers in others. Doyler is a better player on the ball and very skillfull, but not as quick or prolific. They'll be a good combination if you can land him though.

laughingwolf - I have to echo Steve Royal - you may well be on cloud 9 after a good season, but Wolves are no way invincible and will have it tough next year. As for you having it better than us over the last few seasons - we beat you twice in two attempts last season! Kevin Doyle is the best Championship striker as shown by his goals in the first half of the season - the only reason he didn't get lots more is that our midfield forgot to get the ball to him in the 2nd half of the season.

Wolves may be ambitious and have lots of fans, but just because you finally got out of the Championship it doesn't make you a big club. In footballing terms, Villa, Fulham or Everton would be a better move for Doyle, but he won't be guaranteed a start every game, which i suspect he will want.

We heard all this from the Wolves lot years ago, of course they went quiet as church mice when they came down with a thump.

Very poor show, not much class at all.

bushes burnel - real fans reading brought about 300 upto molineux. Wolves brought 2,700 and sold our allocation on a 3 and a half hour journey upto your place, we had the best away support in the league, you can't blame sky for that! I personally think Matt Derbyshire at 3mil would be a better bet, ut Doyle is coming to a big premiership club and will have to proove himself, lets face it he is not the player ebanks blake is

Is this article written by the same Nick Ive who wrote the following words only 3 days ago? 'Doyle has also been linked with a move to Molineux, but the Midlands side are not in the market for players with a £6.5million asking price.'

I can see your point laughingwolf, but Kevin Doyle can do better than Wolves, like Villa or Everton, at least these teams would be competing for cups and european places, wolves whether you like it or not will be fighting relegation! and kevin Doyle could well find himself back in the championship!

   See what I mean? Wrong-uns.

No sense of humilty, just bought out by the Premiership dream..a dream that always turns into a nightmare for them.

SKY has created a generation of people like this.

Its a real shame that proper football fans are few and far between.
