The Royals will face Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the season at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday August 8.

Brendan Rodgers’ side will then make the long trip up to St James’ Park where they will face Championship favourites Newcastle on Saturday August 15 in a tough start to the season which also sees them play Swansea away and Sheffield United at home in August.

The 36-year-old Northern Irishman will welcome his former employers Watford to the Madejski Stadium on Saturday September 26 and will face a hostile reaction when returning to Vicarage Road at the end of the season on Saturday April 24.

Championship new boys Peterborough United will play Reading at London Road on Saturday September 19 and boss Darren Ferguson will be keen to impress after being on the club’s managerial shortlist to replace Steve Coppell.

Reading played Forest away on the opening day of the 2008/09 season last year. The fixtures are subject to change due to televised games and cup matches.
