Brendan Rodgers believes he has the backroom staff to help Reading reclaim their place in the top flight.

As we exclusively revealed two weeks ago, Royals’ new boss will bring in his own team in place of departed coaches Kevin Dillon and Wally Downes. They are likely to be officially unveiled before the end of the week.

Former Spurs right-back Dean Austin will be Rodgers’ No. 2, while Frank Lampard Senior will also help in the coaching and Karl Halibi will be appointed as the club’s sports scientist in place of Kunle Odetoyinbo who will be allowed to leave the club.

Lampard Senior made 551 appearances for West Ham between 1967 and 1985 before moving into coaching.

Rodgers said: “I have known Frank since I was at Chelsea. He is a man of great experience. He played for West Ham for a long time and also worked with Harry Redknapp for years there when one of the club’s most talented group of players were brought through.

“He has worked with top, top players and he is a great support and great guidance for me."
