I was always going to move onBy Nick Ive

John Oster admits he was not surprised by Reading’s decision to ditch him – but believes it
is time for him to move on anyway.
The 29-year-old winger told the Evening Post: “Even if Reading had offered me a new
contract I’m not sure I would have signed it.”
Oster has had to be content with playing second fiddle to Glen Little since arriving on a
free transfer from Burnley in August 2005.
But he insisted: “It’s nothing to do with not having had enough chances to play. Signing a
one-year deal after a one-year deal is not an ideal scenario.
“As it turns out I didn’t have to make a decision anyway because I wasn’t offered anything,
and that is fine as I would quite like to move nearer my roots in the north.
“When I first came to the club, the team selected itself as they were on an unbelievable
run. There was no way of getting in and I have no problems at all with that.”
