Coppell staying
May 20, 2008
Steve Coppell has committed his future to Reading for next season in the Coca-Cola Championship.
Coppell’s future at the club was in doubt following his side’s relegation from the Barclays Premier League on the final day of the season.
However, Coppell said today: “I’m very pleased to be staying, after the end of the season I needed some time to reflect and think about what was the best course of action for both myself and for Reading Football Club.”
Coppell is currently on holiday but added in a statement on the club’s website: “The reaction of the supporters had a bearing on my decision, as did my relationship with the chairman and everyone at the club.
“I’m now looking forward to the new season and the significant challenge of trying to regain our place in the Premier League.”
Reading chairman John Madejski added on Sky Sports News: “I’m delighted to say Steve Coppell has come to terms with us and is honouring his contract to stay for another term.
“The vast majority of people thought he would have gone if we went down but he hasn’t and he wants to see the job through.
“He now has a job to get us back into the Premiership again.”

There is no better manager in the league. He has brought us success with very little money. Playing great football.
The past three years have the greatest of Reading Football Club 135 history.
Losing Steve would have been worse than being relegated !
