Marcus questions the commitment

Marcus Hahnemann has hinted at a split in the camp by admitting that some of his team-mates may not be as devastated by relegation as he is.

It is likely that some Reading players will ask for moves now the club has dropped out of the Premier League, but the keeper said: “I think some people might not be as devastated as I am.

“It might be because of personal situations with some guys leaving.”

Reading are expected to make a host of changes to their playing staff over the summer.

Nicky Shorey, Stephen Hunt and Leroy Lita are the three first-team players who have the most chance of being snapped up.

But Hahnemann, who will be at Reading next season, warned:  “You have to play well to leave and I don’t know if a lot of guys did themselves any favours.”

The 35-year-old American keeper, who has now spent six years at Reading, also insisted Steve Coppell must remain as manager.

Hahnemann said:  “We all want Steve to stay.  We got into the Premier League and we had a great season in the Premier League with him, so of course we want him to stay.

“You don’t need to look at the beginning of the year, you have to look at the last couple of months of the season when we just didn’t perform well enough – we lost to Fulham at home, drew with Wigan and lost to Spurs.

“Yes, we beat Derby, but Fulham won four out of five so they deserve to stay up and we deserve to go down.”

* Marcus Hahnemann flew out to the US on Tuesday and yesterday underwent surgery on his hand to remove the pins that were put in last May.

Kitson will still be there no matter what division - even the conference..... simply because no-one would sign him. If ever there's a player overrated by fans and management it's that useless ginger t***.

Marcus is just publicly voicing what some of us season ticket holders observed during the season. Coppell does not like signing big time charlies. Some of the squad grew into them. Performances and attitude changed, We saw it.
