Ship too strong as charity match raises £260

By Adam Lee
August 01, 2012

Youth overcame experience as The Ship defeated a Norreys Barn Old Boys XI 5-0 at Cantley Park on Sunday.

The game was played in memory of Ray Parker, the founder of the club back in the 1980s, who sadly died recently.

The game was played in a great spirit starting with a one-minute applause for Ray, as his wife Barbara, his son Mark (who played in goal the first half for the Old Boys) and many more of his immediate family watched on.

The scorleine was perhaps not a fair reflection on an Old Boys team who made a real good go of it and only trailed by a single goal at the break.

After the game around 40 people went to The Ship where food was kindly provided by the pub at no cost, allowing the match to raise £260 to be donated to Keep Mobile which is a voluntary organisation who provide transport for the elderly.
