Boss praises Finchampstead FC playersBy Adam Lee

Finchampstead manager Jon Laugharne paid tribute to his players after achieving the club’s highest league position in eight years.
Finch recorded one of the results of the season in Hellenic Division 1 East on Saturday as they defeated champions Newbury 2-1 courtesy of goals from Richard Kell and Kylo Atkinson.
The win saw Finch secure seventh place in the table, and after a season of disappointment in 2010/11, Laugharne admitted he couldn’t have asked for much more this time around.
“It’s not bad considering we were relegation candidates at the start of the season,” he said.
“The players have been terrific and although as a group we feel we could have done better, we have still made massive progress.
“We won four home games last season, but this year we won nine which shows a lot of improvement.
“We may have to add a couple of new players – we need a little bit more quality and a bit more strength in depth – if we can add to what we already have then things could look very good for next season.
“I think with the players we have got we are a top six team, but we fell a little bit short against the lesser teams and that has let us down.
“If we want to be in the top six then you have to put those teams away.
“But at the same time we have beaten some of the top sides in the division, so overall I have no complaints.
“The highlight of the season has to be having a group of players that believe in themselves.
“Once they did start to believe they could be a top-six side some of the football they played was really really good and that is credit to the coaching that Darren Purbrick has done with them.”
