Kidlington FC 1 Binfield FC 3By Colin Byers
April 04, 2011
When Binfield last played Kidlington in January, their 3-0 victory ignited a run of form that has seen the Moles win 15 of their 19 matches to push their way into the title race.
The returning Luke Williams was at the heart of most Binfield attacks, and the winger scored twice in the second half as his side took the points.
Binfield had the lead within five minutes as Jack Tallentire turned Chris Weedon on the edge of the area and his shot took a deflection off defender Jack Quainton and looped over Tom McNamara in the Kidlington goal.
McNamara was then forced into good saves from both Moles captain Gary Callaway and Ian Davies, but Kidlington also showed that they carried a threat when Mark Baker went close on 20 minutes.
And on 28 minutes Kidlington were level as Ryan Curtin found space on the far post and fired home from the corner of the six-yard box.
Before half time, two snap shots from James Suarez and a header from Carl Davies all went over, while at the other end, Curtin saw an effort blocked by Paul Shone.
With the match finely poised at 1-1, the Moles began to take control on the hour mark.
Williams’ pace almost earned his side a penalty while a curling effort from Carl Withers, following great work by Ian Davies, went high and wide.
Chances were coming regularly now with Suarez and Carl Davies going close before Williams restored Binfield’s lead, running with the ball from his own half, he turned Ben Willougby and rifled a left-foot drive into the bottom corner, past the unsighted McNamara.
Three minutes later and the match was over as a contest with a superb Binfield team goal.
Strikers Carl Davies and Ian Davies showed some great interplay on the edge of the box, passed to Suarez who in turn played in Williams to once again finish sweetly with his left.
Tallentire and sub Tim Walsh had good chances to increase the lead late on, but the points were already safe and Binfield stay third.
Next up for Binfield a tough trip to Holyport on Tuesday night for their semi final of the AM Print and Copy Floodlit Cup (7.45pm kick-off)
