Kintbury Rangers FC 1 Finchampstead FC 1

By Arthur Strand
February 22, 2010

Finchampstead travelled west along the M4 without influential players Bobby Hogg, Ben Knight, Junior Arquimbau and Bob Yorke-Goldney, while Dean Thomas still not capable of completing 90 minutes.

Therefore boss Neil White had little option but to draw from the reserves for their Hellenic Division 1 East match and the two starters, Richard Kell and Adam Merrit immediately got involved.

On a sticky surface Finch made the early running, with Thomas hammering an effort over the bar.

But as Kintbury managed to get more of a foothold on the game, Curtis Angell smashed a rocket shot which hit the post, while Steve Darwin also went close before the half-time whistle went.

After the interval, Finch managed to make a breakthrough when Pat Selby’s long aerial ball from near the half-way line found Merrit who nudged the ball past Kane Roberts in the Kintbury goal.

A real end-to-end game then ensued, but with no further goals for almost half and hour.

Kintbury, though, finally got back on level terms when Dan Oatway turned in a corner on 78 minutes.

Towards the end, Finches sought the winner, but keeper Roberts denied them with a triple save  and the game ended in a stalemate.

Finchampstead entertain South Kilburn on Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Finchampstead: Howard, Wright, Carter, Bursill, Hopper, Prentice, Wyatt, Kell, P.Selby, Thomas, Merrit. Substitutes: S.Selby, Bowyer, Baron.
