Taunton Town FC 2 Bracknell Town FC 1By Darrell Freeland

Bracknell Town were left with an absolute mountain to climb after defeat at fellow strugglers Taunton Town left the Robins 12 points from safety.
Manager David Tuttle knew that with the Somerset side just above the relegation zone, victory was imperative, but watched in despair as his young team squandered an early lead to lose by the odd goal in three.
The Berkshire side started brightly and should have taken the lead in the 18th minute after Isaac Sedu picked out Jamel Forde-Small, but he took too long to pull the trigger and Chris McGrath got across to clear his lines.
Two minutes later and the roles were reversed as Forde-Small set up Sedu, but he made no mistake and showed great composure to round goalkeeper Lloyd Irish and finish from an acute angle.
As is typical of Bracknell Town this season, they could only hold onto the lead for 30 seconds.
Dan Smith managed to push Rodney Marsh’s shot onto his right-hand post, but Craig Veal was on hand to slam home the rebound.
Having started so well, Tuttle’s side became embroiled in a physical battle after the break and lost sight of the good football they had played earlier in the match and never looked like scoring a winner.
The hosts on the other hand pressed on, supported by the crowd and the inevitable winner came in the 79th minute as Dan Short climbed highest to head home a corner from four yards out.
Gary Smith saw red for a second yellow card on 83 minutes, but can count himself lucky not to receive his marching orders earlier in the day as Tuttle’s side picked up four other bookings as their indiscipline threw them off their game plan and cost them dearly.
Relegation can still be avoided and Tuttle continues to look to strengthen his squad, but for a side needing at least four wins to climb out of the bottom two, the fact that his side have managed just one victory all season does not bode well.
The proverbial fat lady hasn’t started singing after this latest defeat, but she has certainly started to warm up her vocal chords in readiness.
It doesn’t get any easier as an in-form Bishops Cleeve side visit Larges Lane this coming Saturday after picking up 14 out of a possible 18 points.
