Predator Jack fires Lower Earley to victory
By Alan ManicomJune 10, 2009
Jack Bingham was the goal hero as Lower Earley Predators won the U9s age group at the Winnersh Rangers 6-a-side tournament.
Bingham netted in Predators’ 1-0 win over Sandhurst Town in the final.
All the U7 and U8 matches were non-competitive in accordance with Berks and Bucks FA rules. But Fair Play awards were given to Finchampstead U7s and Westwood Wanderers U8s.
Ascot United Lions won the Under-10s section, while the U12/13s girls age group was won by Reading Girls.
They drew 0-0 with Westwood Diamonds then notched 2-0 victories against Burghfield and Barton Rovers, with Nicole Barrett and Livvie Hazell scoring a goal apiece in both games.
The North East Hants League cup winners, who were playing up a year, are now seeking new players for next season when they move from 7-a-side to 9-a-side football.
Neil Chalfont, the organiser of the tournament at Bearwood College, said: “Considering it was hammering down with rain early in the morning, the conditions weren’t too bad.
“It went superbly from our perspective. It was a great day’s football – competitive and friendly. The weather held out for us thankfully and we plan to run the tournament for a third time on the same weekend next year.
“I’d like to thank all the clubs who took part and the sub committee for all their efforts.”
