Bracknell Town FC boosted by Winchester City FC's points deduction

May 28, 2009

Bracknell Town FC are a step closer to achieving a reprieve from relegation following Winchester City FC's failed attempt to overturn a three-point penalty.

The Hampshire side finished bottom of British Gas Division 1 South & West on a technicality having received a points deduction and a fine after problems arose with the signature of John Docker.

Confusion surrounds the transfer of Docker, mainly due to a 'third party' signing his transfer forms, rather than the player himself.

Yesterday, however, in equally confusing circumstances, the FA upheld Winchester's points deduction.

They found the club not guilty of signing Docker, having been unaware that Hitchin had signed him in the first place, but upheld the points reduction on the grounds that Docker had been signed by a 'third party'.

The Southern League, incidentally, had found Winchester not guilty on the latter issue.

The decision leaves Bracknell with one less problem to worry about as they look to maintain their position in tier four of the football league pyramid.

It appears the Robins have been earmarked preliminarily for the Hellenic Premier Division, the same division that local clubs Reading Town, Binfield and Ascot United will likely be playing in next season.

However, should an insufficient number of clubs qualify for elevation to the Southern League, or if enough clubs in divisions above are unable to compete again next season, Bracknell could be handed a reprieve from relegation.

It will be a huge boost for new manager Kerthney Carty, who last week insisted that it is essential Bracknell compete in the Southern League.
