Sandhurst Town FC made it three wins in five days on Saturday with a fine away victory in the Combined Counties Premier at Raynes Park Vale FC.
After beating Hook United FC 2-0 in the league on Tuesday, and then Staines Lammas FC 3-0 in the Southern Combination Cup on Thursday, morale was high in the Fizzers dressing room.
Raynes Park Vale provided the stiffest challenge of a busy week on a sloping, uneven and rock hard pitch which, together with the windy conditions, both sides found hard to manage.
The Fizzers scored the only goal of the game after seven minutes when a well-weighted cross to the far post from right-winger Prince Toku found defender Matt Weston who headed home from close range.
The Fizzers were able to maintain the pressure and mid-field dominance for the rest of the first half but neither side could add to the score.
The second half was a more balanced and entertaining affair, with Fizzers’ midfield maestro Stephane Koffi unlucky not to score on 72 minutes with a lob, and Pete Mulvaney was unlucky not to convert the rebound.
Raynes Park pushed hard in the final 10 and Asen Agov in the Fizzers goal was called on to make a dramatic save in the dying minutes of the game, tipping the ball over the bar to deny the home side a point and maintain a hat-trick of clean sheets.
John Underwood the Fizzers manager was overjoyed with the win.
“I’m absolutely delighted with the result which on paper was always going to be a difficult affair,” he said.
“It’s been a hard place to come for most teams and get a result this season.
“Given earlier games, three clean sheets in a row is also pleasing along with the commitment and a well-rounded and solid performance by the team in all departments.”
The Fizzers now go into a busy Easter schedule in good form, facing Colliers Wood away on Saturday (kick off 3pm) before taking on local rivals Camberley Town at home at Bottom Meadow on Easter Monday (kick off 11-30am).
