Windsor & Eton 2 Bracknell Town 0By Darrell Freeland
December 31, 2008
Windsor & Eton sent Bracknell Town to the foot of the table after a clinical defeat in the festive local derby.
With fellow strugglers Andover and Winchester City gaining valuable points, Saturday’s two-goal defeat ensures that the Robins will enter 2009 in bottom spot and on the back of a winless ten game run.
The hosts needed only four minutes to open the scoring as Paul Coyne exploited a vast gap in defence before sliding the ball to Joe Chandiram who slotted under Max Aneke.
New signing Leon Solomon cut the ball to Nathan Jack who fired high and wide before Solomon’s effort was blocked by Mark Cooper, but the visitors struggled to create any clear goalscoring opportunities.
The lead was doubled in the 35th minute when former Reading striker Martin Williams’ shot was saved well by Aneke, but Michael Chennels reacted quickest to fire home from close range.
Solomon got into the game more in the second half and both he and James Bayliffe missed chances as Byron Walton’s side once again failed to fashion any clear opportunities.
Chandiram almost added his second goal, but Aneke made a fine save as he tipped the ball around his right post, while he also kept Williams’ shot at bay as the home side continued to threaten.
The visitors rallied at the end and Rob Bullivant pushed substitute Sean Grant’s drive wide before Jack fired over.
Bracknell now host AFC Hayes on New Year’s Day (kick off 3pm) before travelling to Somerset two days later to face Bridgwater Town who are formidable at home.
Walton and his players desperately need to get a win under their belts soon if they are to climb up the table and escape the danger zone.
