Finchampstead 4 Harrow Hill 3
In the First round of The Hellenic League Cup, Finchampstead caused something of an upset as they beat Gloucestershire side Harrow Hill from the Premier Division.
Despite the continuous rain, both sides managed to play flowing football, making for an attractive game.
And Finch didn’t have to wait long for their first goal as Danny Isaiew sprinted in from the edge of the area and stabbed the ball into the net after Dean Thomas’ shot was parried by the keeper Ricky Beckett.
However, it took until just before the half-hour mark for the next goal as Joe Warner put the ball across for Thomas to finish.
On the half hour, however, Harrow Hill pulled a goal back through Paul Manns and that was how the score stayed until the break.
Finchampstead restored their two-goal cushion immediately after the restart as Bobby Hogg fired home.
This, however, was cancelled out little over a minute later when Nick Jones beat Finch keeper Nick Rumsby from the edge of the area.
Rumsby was called into action to tip a couple of corner kicks over the bar, but eventually Harrow Hill breached the defence and Will Freeman took advantage of the space he was allowed to grab the equaliser in the 70th minute.
With 20 minutes left, both sides went searching for the winner, and with time running out, Matt Wright fired home from the edge of the Harrow Hill area to give Finch a terrific 3-2 win in a game sponsored by Glenn Rose, who runs Finchampstead Community Sports.
Yet another cup competition awaits Finchampstead next Saturday when they are drawn at home to Windsor Great Park in the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup.
Elsewhere, Finch Reserves lost 2-1 to Fairford after extra time in their section of the league Cup.
