Chinnor 0 Finchampstead 3
Finchampstead recorded a morale boosting win as they travelled to South Oxfordshire side Chinnor on Saturday.
Afterwards, coach Jeff Dennis praised the side’s reaction to a gruelling training session on on Wednesday as well as the team spirit and cohesion.
Finch’s passing was much improved and they appeared to respond better against a side playing with better shape.
They spent much of the first half occupying the Chinnor half, probing the defence, and when Chinnor crept forward Finch defended solidly.
Tom Hopper’s header from a corner was Finch’s best chance of the opening stages.
The breakthrough that Finchampstead needed eventually came when the ball rebounded off a Chinnor and Alex Meffert jinked across the area before slamming the ball home in the 36th minute.
Seven minutes later, with the ball arriving in the Chinnor area, Luke Axton-Hall headed down to Tom Hopper who swept the ball beyond the keeper to make it 2-0 at the interval.
In the second half, Finch kept up the momentum as Ant Parson came close, while Hopper again came close when Meffert’s accurate aerial ball was headed just over the bar.
With 16 minutes left, Finch surged forward and with Matt Wright and Danny Isaiew working the overlap, Tom Hopper put the ball in the net from close range.
Finch then played out time safely, keeping the clean sheet and recording a superb victory.
