Anderson on the Mark to help out his old club

Former Bracknell Town striker Mark Anderson said he was overjoyed to score the goal that kept his old pals up.

Anderson (pictured right) enjoyed two spells at Larges Lane, and was the top scorer in the 2006/07 season, before moving to Godalming and then Fleet Town.

He scored the only goal as Fleet beat Bracknell’s relegation rivals Slough Town 1-0 and condemned the East Berks side to the drop.

“We were told at half time that Bracknell were winning but as soon as I scored I began wondering what the score was there,” said Anderson.

“It was only afterwards that I realised what the goal had done.

“As it turned out, it was the goal that kept them up, but the fact it’s me is lovely and I’m over the moon with that.

“I had a lot of nice messages from Bracknell fans.

“I enjoyed my time there and the fans were great and the club doesn’t deserve to go down.”

Although Bracknell’s 1-1 draw with Taunton Town was enough to keep them up, Anderson’s goal ended any Slough hopes of beating the drop, something that Robins’ Michael Buck will be eternally grateful for.

“We owe him a lot,” said Buck.

“I’ll buy him a drink the next time I see him.

“Some of the lads were on the phone to him on the way home having a bit of banter and it’s good that he scored the goal that kept us up.”
