It has been confirmed GB women's hockey captain Kate Walsh suffered a fractured jaw in the game against Japan last night.

The defender, from Twyford, was struck in the face by a wayward stick late in the game yesterday and was led from the field with blood dripping from the side of her head.

This morning she underwent surgery where a plate was inserted to stabilise the injury.

Her recovery will be monitored and, although she has not been ruled out of the games, she is thought unlikely to play against Korea tomorrow.
