Promotion for Wokingham HC Ladies 2s
March 30, 2011
Wokingham Ladies 2nd 4 Bracknell Ladies 2nd 1
Wokingham went into Saturday’s local derby knowing that a win would secure promotion into Trysports Three Counties Division 1.
Bracknell, fielding a stronger-than-usual team as they battle to avoid relegation, came out fighting.
Wokingham started well, attacking with threat and had it not been for decisions in the D going against them, they could have been out of sight.
The hard work, however, finally paid off when one of the Bracknell players stopped Sarah Kelly’s shot with her body, and Wokingham were awarded their second penalty flick in as many games.
Captain Hayley Buckland stepped up to take it, and Wokingham had their first goal.
Not long after, though, Bracknell broke forward and scored, restoring parity before half-time.
Wokingham knew they could step up their game in the second half, and so they did.
Some excellent skills from Sandra Dodington resulting in another goal from Buckland and after plenty more hard work from the team, the third goal arrived courtesy of man-of-the-match Buckland.
Wokingham didn’t rest on their laurels, though, knowing that Bracknell were quick on the break and they still had it all to play for.
Some excellent runs from Kirstie Foss and Sarah Kelly resulted in a goal from Kelly, guaranteeing promotion for Wokingham thanks to a fine victory.
