Finchampstead CC finish season on a high

By Adam Lee
September 12, 2012

Finchampstead skipper Matt Jones cemented his position as perhaps the top batsman in the Thames Valley League with another sound innings in his side's three-wicket win over Basingstoke & North Hants.

The victory saw Finches complete the season in sixth position, providing plenty of positives as they prepare for an assault on the title next summer.

Basingstoke, looking to go out with a bang in their last ever Thames Valley League match, started poorly and were staring at disaster at 26-3.

However, a 131-run fourth-wicket partnership between Daniel Coombs (86) and Craig Williamson (41) put them back on course, before eventually falling to 212 all out.

Anthony Parson led the bowling figures with 4-53, although Dave Marles and Sam Taylor took three each.

Jones and Russell Lane then put on 72 for the opening wicket, with Jones making 52 and Lane 19 as they fell in quick succession. The rest of the Finchampstead batsmen all made good contributions, with Marles and Gary Loveday hitting 25 each, Chris Ellison 22 and Steven Bloyce 29 as they eventually reached their target with seven wickets down.
